Reigning champs blow a hole in Mystics’ title hopes
WBBL Championship
Manchester Mystics 54-64 Nottingham Wildcats (11-23, 27-41, 36-57)
Defending WBBL champions Nottingham Wildcats look like they will inevitably relinquish their crown with so much ground to make up, but they have also reduced the chances of it being handed to Mystics.
Wildcats completed an impressive road win at Manchester which has delivered a significant blow to the title hopes of the hosts, who started slowly and were made to pay the price.
Leading scorers – Bailey 143, Roscoe 12, Chaloner 7 (Mystics), Harris 17, Lovett 15, Haley 11 (Wildcats)
Turning point – It was always going to be an uphill struggle for Mystics after they allowed the Wildcats to race out of the blocks and into a 21-4 advantage.
Key stat – It was a day to forget for Mystics who fundamentally had an ice-cold shooting night with a miserable 23% from the field and that is not going to win you many basketball games.
Game hero(es) – Ashley Harris was in stunning form with 17 points, 20 boards, a super 6 blocks and 4 steals.
