With two pieces of WBBL silverware having already been dished out, the spotlight is thrust upon the 2017 WBBL Trophy as the competition gets underway this weekend.

The tournament sees the WBBL clubs divided into a North and South pool, with each team playing each of their group opponents once.

The North Group looks particularly strong and will be a real test for WBBL newcomers Caledonia Pride who have the tough task of matching up against reigning league champions Nottingham Wildcats, 2016 WBBL Play-Off winners Team Northumbria, recently crowed 2017 WBBL Cup winners, Manchester Mystics and also  WBBL Trophy holders Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters who won the competition last year at the Barclaycard Arena.

The South group sees another newcomer in Oaklands Wolves prepare for south-east derby games against Sevenoaks Suns and also Barking Abbey Crusaders, in a match-up that will be broadcast worldwide on BBC Sport on Friday 27 January.

Wolves will also match-up with Cardiff Met Archers and Leicester Riders who are chasing their first showpiece Final appearances.

North: Caledonia Pride, Manchester Mystics, Nottingham Wildcats, Team Northumbria, Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters

South: Barking Abbey Crusaders, Cardiff Met Archers, Leicester Riders, Oaklands Wolves, Sevenoaks Suns

The top two from each pool will then move into the Semi-Finals, with North 1 v South 2 and South 1 v North 2 the last four match-ups.

Those Semi-Finals will determine who will head to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Sunday 19 March for the British Basketball Trophy Finals, when for the first time in history, the showpiece game will be played alongside the 2017 BBL Trophy Final.
