With Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters already into the Semi-Finals of the WBBL Trophy, it is looking like they will be joined by either Nottingham Wildcats or Manchester Mystics.

And, both WBBL heavyweights will meet on Saturday in what’s not only the biggest game of the weekend, a crunch meeting in the context of the Trophy, but also a repeat of the 2017 WBBL Cup Final.

“This is another big game for us and it’s also probably one of the most exciting fixtures of the season,” reiterated Wildcats’ centre Hannah Shaw.

“It was really disappointing to lose to Sheffield at home in the Trophy and to now put ourselves in this position, but we’ve prepped for this weekend and I think we’re ready.

“Naturally losing the Cup Final was a big disappointment, but on reflection, we didn’t execute, we didn’t shoot well and all credit to Manchester they deserved the W.

“We’re currently sitting at the top of the league, we’ve already won the BCC and we were finalists in the Cup, so it would be really disappointing to not make the Trophy Final in Glasgow as we’re definitely capable.”

She continued, “With this weekend’s game, I feel it really could go either way.

“It will come down to who turns up and it really is anybody’s game.

“We’ve made some changes roster wise, which gives us a bit of a different look, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Those changes include bringing in former favourite Gillian Baird again and she is likely to feature when Wildcats head to Manchester not only looking to avenge their Cup Final reverse, but also a heavy league defeat on the road, earlier in the campaign.

Also on Saturday, Caledonia Pride will continue their search for an elusive first win of the season in what is a cross-border derby against Team Northumbria – with the visitors also entertaining Hatters 24 hours later at Sport Central.

The South Group of the Trophy looks a little more open, but that could change as Barking Abbey Crusaders complete a weekend double header at Cardiff Met Archers on Saturday and then at home to Leicester Riders. There is also a clash between Oaklands Wolves and Sevenoaks Suns on Sunday.
