It’s back to WBBL Championship action this weekend with seven games to savour, including tonight’s BBC Sport match-up between Sevenoaks Suns and Cardiff Met Archers.
The home side are hoping they can continue another positive campaign, with rising star Dani Lozzi eager to highlight the improvements she has made with Sevenoaks during the past 12 months.
“I feel I’ve come a long way since last season and have been making some good plays and getting good stats,” she said.
“Defensively, I think I’ve really stepped up, but my offensive game is what has really changed the most, as I’ve become much more confident in my own ability.
“As a team, we just keep improving. We’ve really started to gel together and bringing in Renee Busch has had a hugely positive impact – she has been a perfect fit with our squad and has helped boost our team’s progression and performance.
“For both Suns and the WBBL, playing this game on BBC Sport creates an exposure we haven’t had before. It’s great for women’s basketball to finally be receiving the recognition it deserves, and hopefully this will attract new fans and potentially even encourage participation.
“On an individual level, I feel privileged to be able to play the sport that I love on national television, and I’m excited to see what it brings,” continued Lozzi.
“Looking at the last performance of Archers, where they took Barking to double overtime with [Judit] Fritz top scoring with 40 points, we know that the key to winning is our defence.
“We aim to contain their main offensive threats and limit their scoring opportunities whilst exploiting mismatches down the other end and making the most of each possession,” concluded the teenager.
Suns will also travel to Leicester Riders tomorrow afternoon, with Archers making the trip back home to Wales as they host Caledonia Pride.
Sunday sees four match-ups, with Pride no doubt eyeing up a historic first win as they go to fellow strugglers Oaklands Wolves.
The other three games are all repeats of last weekend’s Trophy clashes, with Barking Abbey Crusaders entertaining Riders, Team Northumbria tussling with Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters and Nottingham Wildcats facing Manchester Mystics.
