We look at who has been coming up with the goods in the WBBL during February.
Scoring machines
There were an outstanding [and season-high] nine players who all passed the 20 points per game landmark and they were led by Alison Gorrell (Team Northumbria) with 27.3 points per game, with Great Britain forward Savannah Wilkinson (Barking Abbey Crusaders) in second with 24.7 points per game and the Molten WBBL Player of the Month, Ashley Harris (Nottingham Wildcats) racking up 23.8 points per game. Erika Livermore (Leicester Riders), Kara Bonenberger (Team Northumbria), Judit Fritz (Cardiff Met Archers), Siobhan Prior (Nottingham Wildcats), Cat Carr (Sevenoaks Suns) and Georgia Jones (Manchester Mystics) were the other players who scored more than 20 points per game.
Sharp-shooters
The hottest-hand in February belonged to Great Britain forward Mollie Campbell (Leicester Riders) who fired 61.9% from the field although perhaps even she would concede that the sheer volume of 39 from 65 attempts by Erika Livermore (Leicester Riders) is perhaps even more impressive as that equates to 60%. Alison Gorrell (Team Northumbria) takes bronze with 58% from the floor
Deadly from downtown
Focusing on those who took at least ten attempts from behind the three-point line during the period, it was GB veteran Stef Collins (Cardiff Met Archers) who lit it up with a fabulous 71.4%.
And it was an -all British top-five with Harriet Swindells (Leicester Riders) sinking 48%, Georgia Gayle (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) making 47.8%, Renee Busch (Sevenoaks Suns) converting 45.2% and Helen Naylor (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) hitting 43.5%
On the glass
There was some great work on the boards during the month with five players harvesting a double-digit average. Ashley Harris (Nottingham Wildcats) led with a mammoth 15.3 rebounds per game and Tricia Oakes (Caledonia Pride) amassed 12.5 per game. Perhaps most surprisingly and eye-catching was her team-mate and guard, Sarah Thomson (Caledonia Pride) weighing in with 11.5 boards per game, while Savannah Wilkinson (Barking Abbey Crusaders) and Brittany Winborne (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) snapped up 10.7 and 10.3 boards respectively.
Passing the rock
Alex Smith (Leicester Riders) jumped to the top of our chart after dishing up a really nice 7.8 assists per game and that just held off Cat Carr (Sevenoaks Suns) who had a great month with 7.4 per game. Meanwhile Nicolette Fong Lyew Quee (Team Northumbria) was the other player to pass the milestone of six per game after she handed out 6.3 assists per outing.
From the line
While perfection was not attained from the charity stripe, our podium steps are occupied by players who shot more than 90%. Siobhan Prior (Nottingham Wildcats) made 14 of 15 which is 93.3%, while both Nicolette Fong Lyew Quee (Team Northumbria) and Melisa Mendes (Nottingham Wildcats) made 10 of 11.
Steal merchants
In yet another very strong Statstars category for British talent, four of the top five places are all from the UK with Dom Allen (Manchester Mystics) waving the British flag and also for the frontcourt family by unexpectedly grabbing 3.3 steals per game. That was the same production as Amber Charles (Oaklands Wolves), with rising star Dani Lozzi (Sevenoaks Suns) and fellow Brit Siobhan Prior (Nottingham Wildcats), tied with Ashley Harris (Nottingham Wildcats) on 2.8 steals per game.
The swatters
It’s out with the old and in with the new on this month’s podium as Tricia Oakes (Caledonia Pride) assumes the throne with 1.5 blocks per game and she is kept company by Ashley Harris (Nottingham Wildcats) and Jamila Thompson (Leicester Riders) with 1.3 swats per game.
