Team Northumbria picked up their sixth league win of the season after beating Caledonia Pride 59-86 on the road.

Alison Gorrell led the way with 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a strong all-round display as the visitors powered to victory to improve to a 6-5 record.

Sarah Thomson had the hot hand in the opening period and netted 12 points – half from downtown – though the hosts would trail by 3 after 10 minutes.

It was in the second period that Chris Bunten’s side made their move as they went on a 13-2 run before opening up a 16-point gap to take into the interval.

Northumbria carried on where they left off when play resumed as they poured in 31 points in the third to extend their advantage.

The hosts continued to fight in the final period, but Northumbria wrapped up the victory to close the gap on those above them in the table.

Thomson finished with 21 points and Tricia Oakes added 17 points and 15 rebounds as Pride’s wait for a first home win continues.
