Our favourite annual series continues we ask WBBL Coaches to identify five players they believe deserve some recognition for their efforts this season.

They may not always be those challenging for awards, but they have impressed our play-callers. Next up is Barking Abbey Crusaders’ play-caller Mark Clark – one of the most respected in the UK game.

Georgia Jones (Manchester Mystics)

Regardless of my long association with Georgia since the time she was merely a 15-year-old when she played for the U16 National Team and made her debut for the Great Britain  seniors, she still impresses me. She is a player that leads her team and proves every day that you can overcome any challenge that is put in front of you. A WBBL Cup win and a great season in the WBBL generally, is a great demonstration of how British players can be developed and become great role models

Siobhan Prior (Nottingham Wildcats)

Another British player who is competing for her hometown club, she has lead her team to back-to-back WBBL Championship league titles. Her projection of the game on TV as a commentator on BBC Sport has also enhanced the WBBL and the British game. It was also great to see her at Great Britain practice. She is another person that every young player can aspire to be and she always plays with a real passion for her team.

Sarah Wagstaff (Cardiff Met Archers)

A stalwart of Cardiff, whether it was when they were winning silverware, or going through a comprehensive re-building process, Sarah is always there for Archers. On and off the court, she represents their programme in such a positive way. While Sarah is there, Cardiff will always be growing. Her performance in key games has dragged Cardiff into the end of season Play-Offs.

Georgia Gayle (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters)

Again a player who has continued to grow and who commits to every game. I am sure she will continue to develop into a leading WBBL performer as she has continually added to her game. She is now becoming a leader for Sheffield in a season that has seen our leading club challenged as they have never been before. She is another player who every young player in and around Sheffield can aspire to be.

Diana Naydenova-Goryanova (Barking Abbey Crusaders)

I could write pages about our veteran guard Diana, who is simply the most positive and professional players I have ever worked with. Everyday is an education for the rest of our players on how to be a professional from a WBBL player who has played at the highest level in Europe. She is now giving so much back to the sport in what she is doing.
