A record-breaking British Basketball crowd is still on course to be set at the 2017 Play-Off Finals on Sunday after ticket sales moved towards the previous high tide mark of 14,700.

Now the magical milestone of 15,000 is even within grasp, with five days still remaining until the showpiece event gets underway at The 02 in London.

“Our first aim was to set a new record, but we don’t want to stop there,” emphasised BBL Chief Operating Officer, Andy Webb.

“It’s a fantastic boost for the sport to hopefully see a new attendance record being set, since it shows how basketball is in the ascendancy – but maybe hitting that 15k mark would also be very special.

“We are experiencing unprecedented interest in the event and not just in terms of ticket sales, but in terms of the media as well, so it is very exciting all round.

“We have the two WBBL silverware winners so far this season in Nottingham Wildcats and Sevenoaks Suns for the first Final of the day and it’s the same scenario for the BBL Final as well – with league and Trophy winners Leicester Riders meeting BBL Cup winners, Esh Group Eagles Newcastle.

“I also think fans will love the combination of having two huge Finals and also another HoopsAid event – as well as the likes of exclusive performances from rapper Tinchy Stryder and vocalist Jon Moses.

“We are hoping it can be the best event we have done to date and it will be a fitting way to sign off on a record-breaking season.”
