The opening day of the new WBBL Championship campaign may have provided some clues as to a shifting order among the league’s leading teams this season.
In an almighty opening clash the reigning Play-off champions, Sevenoaks Suns, maintained their edge over the current league champions, Nottingham Wildcats, as Cat Carr’s double-double led them to a 59-52 statement of intent win.
Meanwhile, Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters – rebounding from a season without a trophy – sent a dominant message as they beat newcomers Durham Palatinates 91-37 behind 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists from new star Krisztina Velkey.
Finally, a strong-looking Cardiff Met Archers scored a big 68-42 road win at Oaklands Wolves, with new 6’3” American centre Merissa Quick scoring 25 points.
