Suns take a hard-fought road win to stay flawless

Cardiff Met Archers 55 – 61 Sevenoaks Suns (11-13, 23-33, 32-45)

Sevenoaks Suns remain unbeaten at the summit of the WBBL Championship table, moving to 6-0 after overcoming Cardiff Met Archers 61-55 on the road.

Suns were led in a strong defensive performance by Cat Carr and Ta’Yani Clarke, building a first half lead that they needed in order to hold off a fourth quarter resurgence from the hosts.

Turning point – Suns built their lead in the second quarter, as a 13-2 run gave them a double-digit half time lead at 33-23. Ta’Yani Clarke scored eight points in the stanza, and Ashley Munns added five in the key run, including a three-pointer. A defensive shutdown in the third quarter – allowing their hosts just nine points – enabled Sevenoaks to withstand a fourth quarter fightback from Archers.

Key stat – In a scrappy game where neither team shot well – a combined 33% from the field – Suns scored a massive 21 points from the 22 turnovers that they forced their hosts into.

Game hero – Catt Carr led the Suns with an all-round performance, posting 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three big steals in that defensive show.
