Leicester show their quality on road trip to Wales

Cardiff Met Archers 40-75 Leicester Riders (15-20, 22-33, 27-48)

There was a winning start to their WBBL Trophy campaign for the high-flying Leicester Riders as they swept aside an Archers side lacking in firepower with an awesome defensive display.

The superior depth of the visitors was in evidence as they capitalised on Cardiff failing to cope without their Commonwealth Games duo of Stef Collins and Eilidh Simpson.

Leading scorers – Quick 17, Schnorr 10, Stradling 8 (Archers), Hayward 25, Oliver 10, Brandholm 9

Turning point – Riders posted a 12-0 run either side of the first and second quarter break which put them onto the front foot with a healthy double-figure lead and they had no cause to look back.

Key stat – The 40 points was all you needed to focus on, with Archers dominated defensively by Riders who shut them down completely.

Game hero(es) – Dee Hayward has had another terrific season in the WBBL and was a star performer again with a flurry of triples all contributing to a 25-point haul.
