Bailey keen to see what shorthanded Mystics can do

Manchester Mystics enters the weekend without internationals Georgia Jones and Dominique Allan – both in Australia on Commonwealth Games duty.

The side from Lancashire host Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters on Saturday, hoping to ignite their Trophy campaign, having fallen to Durham Palatinates in their opening pool fixture.

“It’s a big game for us this weekend,” admitted Mystics’ Rheanne Bailey.

“Obviously we’re going to miss both Georgia (Jones) and Dom (Allen), but it will be exciting to see who can step up and fill their roles.

“We see this weekend as a challenge and it’s something we’re all excited about.

“For me, my job won’t change too much. I’ll remain aggressive on both ends of the court.

“I’ve tried to take on a bit more of the scoring load this year, to make us more difficult to guard as unit.

“This weekend we must continue to work hard and play at our tempo for the full contest.

“If we can do that we will give ourselves a chance against a strong Sheffield team.”

On Sunday, Caledonia Pride welcomes Team Northumbria before Leicester Riders battle Nottingham Wildcats. The home sides will be looking to maintain their winning start to the Trophy campaign.

Sevenoaks Suns and BA London Lions round out the weekend’s action. The visitors will be hopeful of building on their maiden victory of the season, last time out.
