Sevenoaks Suns recover from Trophy Final defeat to take the lead in the WBBL Championship title race.

Sevenoaks Suns have taken outright leadership of the WBBL Championship, for 48 hours at least, after beating Durham Palatinates 86-54 at home on Wednesday.
It was a fourth straight league win for the Suns, and a second of the season over Durham, and sees them recover from the weekend’s Trophy Final defeat to fellow title-chasers, Leicester Riders.

Turning point – After the teams exchanged big runs in the first quarter, Sevenoaks started the second with an 11-2 surge, with Cat Carr scoring 5 before a Renee Busch three-pointer made the score 29-21. The lead hit double-figures at 35-23 when Busch connected from long-range once more, and Suns controlled the game from thereon.
Key stat – Suns cranked up their defence in that big second stanza run, allowing their visitors just nine points, and enabling Durham to shoot just 25% from the field in that spell (4-16). Durham ended at just 28% from the field for the game.
Game hero(es) – Suns had four players score in double-figures, led by Judit Fritz on 17 points shooting 61% from the field. But special mention must go to Ta’Yani Clark, who had a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 assists, and was just one point shy of a triple-double.
