There are four players making their first appearance in the WBBL All-Star Five this week, led by the second highest individual performance points total of the season for Carla Bieg Salazar. That comes after last week saw the first game in the WBBL Trophy and a pair of overtime games in the Championship.

Carla Bieg Salazar – Essex Rebels
The Spanish guard who joined Rebels after four years playing at Seattle University led her team to their first win of the season on Saturday, beating Nottingham Wildcats 95-91 in overtime. She had the second highest performance points total of the season after posting 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists, shooting 9-13 (69%) from the field, including Rebels’ final six points in the extra period.

Stephanie Umeh – BA London Lions
Earlier in the week, Lions made it three wins in a row by knocking Rebels out of the BBL Trophy, as Stephanie Umeh came from the bench to post a decisive double-double. She had 16 points on 8-10 (80%) shooting, to go with 10 rebounds in just shy of 20 minutes on court. That included six points and five boards in the second stanza as Lions established a big half-time lead.

Lucrezia Costa – Essex Rebels
Rebels’ other recent recruit Lucrezia Costa, a 6’2″ Italian forward out of UMBC, dragged in a massive 20 rebounds in their overtime win, also adding 12 points to complete a double-double, along with three assists, two steals and a block. She scored the lay-up that tied the game with just over a minute to play, ahead of Rebels dominating the overtime period to take the victory.

Kennedy Leonard – BA London Lions
The only player to have previously featured in the All-Star Five, Leonard scored 18 points, including 8-10 (80%) interior shooting, and added six rebounds and eight assists in Lions’ WBBL Trophy first round win. She set the tone early, with 10 of her points and five of her assists coming in a first half that Lions won by 17 points.

Abigail Lowe – Newcastle Eagles
Eagles also had to come through overtime on Saturday to record a first win in six, and first on the road this season, as Abigail Lowe played all 45 minutes of their 91-87 triumph over Oaklands Wolves. She had 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals, and was one of three Eagles who shot double-figure free-throws as the team set a WBBL record with 55 attempts. She scored six of Newcastle’s 11 points in overtime to seal the win.
