For the second week in a row, there are two BA London Lions players in the WBBL All-Star Five after they made it four straight wins in all competitions, and remain unbeaten in league play. Amazingly, the bench is led by two players – Jasmine Joyner and Alison Gorrell – who posted the second and third highest performance points tallies of the season so far, with Gorrell breaking the WBBL Championship record for points in a single game, hitting 40 on Saturday, albeit in defeat for both.
Cassie Breen – BA London Lions
The American sharpshooter makes her second All-Star Five appearance after hitting an amazing 19 first quarter points, and a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc, as Lions blew away Nottingham Wildcats early. Breen finished with 35, shooting 7-12 (58%) three-pointers, also adding four rebounds and three steals.
DeAngelique Waithe – Essex Rebels
Rebels made it back-to-back WBBL Championship wins by beating Newcastle Eagles, with American forward DeAngelique Waithe dominant all over the court. She posted a huge double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, dominating the interior at both ends of the floor by shooting 7-10 (70%) inside and blocking two shots, while adding four assists. Rebels came from behind in a fourth quarter in which she had nine points, six rebounds and three assists.
Kennedy Leonard – BA London Lions
It’s a second appearance in a row, and a third in total, for Kennedy Leonard as she posted a double-double in Lions’ win. In a do-it-all performance, she had 14 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and five steals, with four of her assists coming in that dominant first quarter, three of which were for Breen.
Pollyanna Storie – Caledonia Pride
Caledonia Pride recorded a first win of the season by beating Durham Palatinates on the road on Saturday, with the GB youth international leading all scorers on 19 points, shooting 8-11 (72%) inside. Storie was close to a double-double with nine rebounds, also adding four steals and three assists. Eight of her points came in a fourth quarter during which Pride ran away with the game.
Sian Phillips – Caledonia Pride
It’s also a first appearance of the season for another Caledonia player, Sian Phillips, after she recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in that game. She added two blocks and six steals in a strong defensive display for the team, as they finished with an astonishing 19 steals and 19 points off turnovers in the game.
