Sevenoaks Suns booked their place in the WBBL Trophy Final with a convincing win over Leicester Riders on Sunday.
The Suns will face London Lions in March’s final, who dominated Durham Palatinates in Sunday’s Championship action, where there were also wins for Nottingham Wildcats and Caledonia Pride.
Remaining a perfect 14-0 in the Championship, the Suns were equally as impressive in the Trophy as they held off a late Riders fightback to book their final berth. The Suns were mightily impressive on the defensive end to start the game and held the Riders to only eight points in the second quarter as Leicester could only muster 21 first half points.
Sevenoaks continued to dominate the tie as they led by as many as 28 points, before the Riders threatened a comeback in the fourth with a 12-0 run, however left it too late as the Suns chase their first silverware of the season.
Cat Carr finished the game with a triple-double of 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, whilst Janice Monakana posted a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns.
They will face last year’s trophy winners London Lions, who wrapped up an excellent weekend with a dominant performance over Durham Palatinates.
The free scoring Lions finished the game with seven players scoring in double digits as they improved to 13-0. London put in a near complete performance over the Palatinates, culminating in holding Durham to only three points in the entire third quarter.
Kennedy Leonard put in another dazzling display, and was close to a quadruple-double incredibly, posting 14 points, eight rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals in a remarkable all-round performance.
The day’s action tipped off in Cardiff as Nottingham Wildcats looked to strengthen their Playoff hopes against the bottom of the table Archers.
The two sides served up a thriller and it took a fourth quarter comeback for Nottingham to secure the big away win, trailing by seven going into the final 10 minutes.
The Wildcats saved their best for last as they outscored the Archers 24-9 in the final quarter to move up to sixth in the Championship.
Praise Egharevba led the Wildcats with a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds, whilst Shannon Hatch posted 24 points for the Archers.
The day’s final game saw Caledonia Pride pick up a massive win over Gloucester City Queens, and they did it in style. The Pride made it three wins in a row with a dominant performance over the Queens.
It’s the first time this season that Caledonia have posted triple digits, and they put in the defensive performance to match as they secured a big away win to round off the weekend.
