There were big wins for London Lions, Essex Rebels and Leicester Riders in an entertaining day of WBBL Championship action.

In the day’s early tip-off, Newcastle Eagles traveled south to take on the undefeated London Lions. The side from the capital showed their class from the very first whistle as they rushed into a 23-7 lead after the opening quarter.

The home side added a further 25 points in the second quarter to lead 48-22 at the halftime break. Lions continued their dominance into the second half, scoring 12 unanswered points at the beginning of the third quarter. They limited Eagles to just nine points in the period to lead 71-31 going into the last.

Lions won the final quarter 23-16 to secure a comprehensive 94-47 win.

Cassie Breen was Lions standout player as she finished with 30 points whilst Maddy Mcvivar led the scoring charts for Eagles with 15 points.

Much like Lions, Essex Rebels got out of the blocks quickly against Gloucester City Queens. The visiting side scored 26 points and limited Queens to just five in a one-sided first quarter. There was no let-off for Queens in the second as Rebels extended their lead, winning the quarter 22-15.

The second half was a similar affair with Queens struggling to get into the match. Rebels extended their lead again and went into the fourth and final quarter 70-30 ahead with the game out of sight for the home side.

Rebels won the last quarter 21-12 to win all four quarters and go home with a comfortable victory.

Deangelique Waithe produced a superb double-double performance of 19 points and 12 rebounds for Rebels while Carolina Marques had a good game for Queens, contributing 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Leicester Riders also picked up a comfortable victory as they beat Oaklands Wolves 82-41.

In a closely contested opening quarter Riders were able to open up a five-point lead, leading Wolves 17-12. They then outscored their opponents 22-13 in the second quarter to create some daylight between the sides as they led 39-25 at the break.

Riders then scored a further 24 points in the third quarter with Wolves only able to score seven themselves. This left Riders 29 points ahead going into the fourth quarter with the match all but secured for the home side. They scored 19 points in the fourth to secure the win.

Hannah Robb starred for Riders with a double-double performance of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Oceana Hamilton also finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
