Durham Palatinates and Cardiff Met Archers picked up valuable wins in the WBBL Championship this evening, as they both aim to secure spots in the play-offs.

An impressive Elle Hendershot double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds inspired the Palatinates to victory against Oaklands Wolves in the first game of the night, while 13 rebounds each from Victoria Natufe and Jessica Wayne helped the hosts control the backboards and dominate defensively.

Wolves captain Lizzy Harrison went 50% from the field as she dropped a team-high of 15, followed up closely by 13 points from Miriam Menendez were the main positives the visitors took from the loss, which saw Durham leap to 8th in the standings, while Oaklands remain in 11th.

Meanwhile in Cardiff, the Met Archers secured only their third win of the season in the Championship with a phenomenal performance against the Gloucester City Queens, as Shannon Hatch and Issy Bunyan dropped 20 points each, while Lauren Saiki came just one rebound and one assist away from a triple-double.

The visitors were led by Marlee Ball and captain Claire Abbott with 16 points each, but aside from Molly James’ total of 13, the depleted Queens team struggled to get going, and the loss meant that their opposition have moved level on points with them, and take valuable momentum in the final few games of the season in order to try and snatch a play-off place away against all the odds.
