All of last week’s WBBL games were played on a Super Saturday, with the All-Star 5 led by a pair of Caledonia Gladiators after they continued their good start, alongside a duo from Oaklands Wolves after they recorded their first win of the nascent campaign.

Erin Jones – Caledonia Gladiators
Erin Jones is the only player to have already made three appearances in the weekly team after another huge performance as Gladiators dominated Nottingham Wildcats on the road for a 4-1 start to the WBBL Championship. She shot 9-13 (69%) from the field for 21 points, adding nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Gladiators raced out of the blocks and led from tip-to-buzzer as Jones hit a pair of three-pointers among eight points in a 16-4 start. In a great defensive display, her four steals led directly to six points as the team scored a considerable 25 points from turnovers.

Chantelle Handy – Caledonia Gladiators
Great Britain Olympian Chantelle Handy was the leading scorer in Caledonia’s win as she makes a first All-Star 5 appearance of the season in her return to the WBBL after numerous campaigns all over Europe, most recently in Latvia and the EuroLeague with TTT Riga. Handy scored 25 points, knocking down 3-5 (60%) from beyond the three-point line, with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Like her teammate, she was instrumental in that early surge as she scored six points in the opening six minutes.

Grace George – Oaklands Wolves
Wolves recorded their first win of the season on the road at Manchester Met Mystics, behind a big double-double and do-it-all performance from British forward Grace George, who joined recently following numerous campaigns in Australia. She scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, with more than half of her scoring coming from the free-throw line as she proved hard to handle, drawing nine fouls and shooting 13-17 (76%) at the stripe, also adding five steals, four assists and three blocks. She scored 11 points in under five minutes over the first quarter break as Wolves overturned an early deficit.

Sune Swart – Essex Rebels
Rebels were another team to get their first win of the campaign by beating Durham Palatinates behind another great performance from South African born American big Sune Swart, who joined in the summer after two professional seasons in Spain. Swart – who is second in the league in offensive rebounding and third in interior scoring – had a double-double of 16 points and 14 boards in under 24 minutes, with six of those rebounds coming at the offensive end and leading directly to 10 of her points.

Cassidy Gould – Oaklands Wolves
Another big performer in Wolves’ first win of the season was Australian guard Cassidy Gould, as she also earns a first All-Star 5 nomination of the season. In a captain’s performance she scored 29 points with nine rebounds and two assists, and like her teammate she was a handful all game as she drew 10 fouls and made 11-15 (73%) at the free-throw line. After leading throughout, Wolves were trailing in the fourth period until Gould took over by scoring 10 points in the last three minutes in a 16-8 finish that won the game.
