Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles have announced the signing of Courtney Clasen ahead of the 2023/24 Women’s British Basketball League season. Clasen will suit up for her third season in the League after injury derailed her first two campaigns. 

First signing in 2021/22, Determination and commitment to the game saw the 5’8″ American manage to battle back from two long-term injuries and Eagles fans will finally be able to see the ability and reason the franchise continues to bring her back. 

Head coach Noelia Cacherio had no hesitation in returning a fully fit Clasen saying:  

“Courtney is a hard-working athlete whose talent has been hidden by injury in the Women’s British Basketball League so far. 

“She has now competed with the Eagles for a season, and I am looking forward to seeing how Courtney allows herself to just play the game and show the Eagles fans, and herself, her true potential. 

“I am hoping that with restored confidence in her physical ability, we will see Courtney’s best performances with the Eagles’ jersey in the 2023/24 campaign.” 

On her return to Newcastle, Clasen said: 

“The Vertu Motors Arena feels like home to me. 

“I’m so fortunate and excited to spend another season playing for an organization that continues to grow the women’s game, and for fans that are the primary advocates and reason behind that growth!” 

Clasen will target the starting five as the Eagles tip-off their first regular season game against Caledonia Gladiators on Saturday 28 October at 7:30pm.
