Ahead of their season opener at home against Oaklands Wolves on Saturday 21st of October, Cardiff Met Archers have announced their squad for the upcoming season, which includes three exciting new signings.
Following critical departures from the starting five last season, the Archers are looking forward to this new era of basketball with three new signings from the United States. Jenna Hoschouer from Otterbein University, Haylee Saurette from Nazarene University, and three-time Pacwest Conference All-Star first-team player Mandi Kawaha brings a wealth of experience to the squad.
Wales Senior Women’s Captain Laura Shanahan is returning to the squad for the 9th consecutive season and said:
“We’re all really excited for the league to begin. It’s a new group, with three new signings and three promoted from the WNBL D1 side: Azeb Smalley, Solene Lemoigne and Taylor Lambert.
“In the time I’ve been at Cardiff Met, we’ve not had a big change in the roster in one season, so with more new faces than returners, it’s been exciting to come back off the back of a successful summer with the Wales senior women.”
Archers head coach and GB Assistant Head Coach said:
“Heading into the 9th year of the league, the women’s game continues to grow and expand to new beginnings with clubs pushing the standards and making moves in Europe with the notable Euroleague and Eurocup competitions.
“As the only Welsh franchise, we look forward to welcoming our fans back to Archers’ Arena this Saturday as we take on Oaklands Wolves in our first home game of the season; the players are ready to compete and continue to push our level of play in what will be an exciting season in the British Basketball League.”
Abigail Yunker, Cami Barone and Molly James, who were in the squad last year, make up the rest of the 2023/24 team, who are looking to start strong against Oaklands at Archers Arena this Saturday.
