Essex Rebels 72-84 Durham Palatinates

Durham Palatinates surprised everyone with a shock upset win over the Essex Rebels, as they beat them away from home to destabilise the fight at the top of the table.
First Half
First blood went to the Palatinates as they capitalised on a string of misses. From here they took the lead and built up a reasonable gap.
Essex did tie the scoreline back up before the Palatinates quickly extended their lead once again.
In the second quarter, the Rebels started strong, trying to close the gap, but it was little to no avail.
The first half ended with a 14-point advantage in favour of Durham.
Second Half
A similar story continued in the second half, as the Rebels brought the score line closer before the visitors extended their lead.
At the end of the penultimate quarter, the Palatinates managed to grow their lead even more to 18 points. The victory was all but in the bag for them.
The hosts did respond, but it was a little too late for them as they closed the gap to 12 points.
Durham won 72-84 with a 12-point advantage over the Rebels, in a shock victory.
Player of the Game
The stand-out Player of the Game today was Durham Palatinates captain Elle Hendershot, with an impressive statistical array of 22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists.

Leicester Riders 59-55 Caledonia Gladiators

Caledonia Gladiators: Hannah Robb, Ariadna Pujol, Sokhna Binton Lo Sylla, Laken James, Kirsty Brown.
Leicester Riders managed a final-quarter comeback over the Caledonia Gladiators, after a hard-fought and close matchup between the two sides. The loss is a blow towards the Gladiators’ fight at the top of the table.
First Half
In the early stages of the first quarter, both teams were fighting hard to take the lead. However, the Riders came out on top with a five-point advantage.
They carried over that momentum into the final 10 minutes of the half and managed to extend their lead to eight points.
But the Gladiators fought back before half-time and took the lead before the Riders equalised, with thanks to Samantha Ashby who levelled the score in the final 25 seconds of the half.
Second Half
The second half continued the close game between the two sides, with little setting them apart from one another as they headed into the final quarter with only one point between the sides.
Leicester stayed strong and left everything on the court, which paid off. The hosts went from being five points down early on to winning 59-55 with a four-point advantage.
Player of the Game
The Player of the Game was awarded to the Gladiators’ Laken James. Even though she was on the losing side today, she put up impressive numbers to give her side a chance, with 19 points scored, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

London Lions 86-50 Manchester Giants

Manchester Giants: Brooklynn McAlear-Fanus, Myah Pace, Eva Karasaite, Hannah Shaw, Leah McDerment.
The newly crowned EuroCup Women Champions, London Lions, go back to the top of the table, with a dominant win over the Manchester Giants, winning 86-50 at home.
First Half
Manchester started the first quarter strong, as they kept up with the high-quality basketball, which the Lions are known for playing.
The Giants managed to keep it a one-point game heading into the final 10 minutes of the half.
But playing at the level they were, it was hard to keep it up for much longer. The Lions pushed on ahead leaving the Giants in the dust.
They built up a 23-point lead in only 10 minutes at the end of the first half.
Second Half
Similar to the end of the first half, the Lions were a step above Manchester as they continued their ever-growing advantage to 35 points at the end of the penultimate quarter.
After recovering from the last two quarters, the Giants composed themselves and put up a challenge to what was probably a Lions team sitting in cruise control.
The final score was 86-50 in the Lions’ favour, with a 36-point advantage at the buzzer.
Player of the Game
The Player of the Game goes to Temi Fagbenle, who played an impressive game from off the bench with 21 points, 7 rebounds and an assist to her name.
