London Lions floor general Abby Meyers takes home Molten Sixth Player of the Year honours

Versatile American guard Abby Meyers has followed up helping her London Lions secure a berth in the Playoff Finals over the weekend with being named the inaugural winner of the Molten Sixth Player of the Year (6POTY) award.

A new title established this season, the 6POTY award is given to a player who has made the most significant contribution off the bench throughout the course of the season for their team, with the winner selected following a voting process involving the club Head Coaches and Captains.

Featuring in 18 of London’s 20 Championship encounters during an unbeaten campaign for Head Coach Stella Kaltisdou’s side, Meyers’ versatility has made her an incredible asset to this star-studded roster.

With an embarrassment of riches at the guard position, Meyers has shown her complete repertoire domestically and in Europe as a starter and off the bench. If you need buckets, the American can provide. Need an assist? Meyers has you covered. Want a tone-setter on the defensive end? The 24-year-old will deliver.

Beginning her professional career last summer as the Dallas Wings selected Meyers with the 11th pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, the Maryland native also represented the Washington Mystics before joining the Lions in August.

An Ivy League Player of the Year in after four years with Princeton and a final collegiate season at Maryland, Meyers has also won a gold medal for Team USA at the Maccabiah Games in 2022 – a tournament open to Jewish athletes around the world and all Israeli citizens – before embarking on her professional career.

Speaking following confirmation of her award, Meyers said:

“As a rookie coming in, this year has exceeded many of my expectations. I have been so lucky to represent and play on a top calibre team.

“Thank you to the London Lions organisation, my teammates, coaches, and staff who have taught me invaluable lessons that I hope to carry with me. I am honoured to receive this award. It is a reflection of the superb Lions programme and League as a whole!”
