The Nottingham Wildcats have bolstered their roster with the signing of American guard Kalaya Buggs, a standout from Cal Poly Pomona, ahead of the 2025/26 Super League Basketball season.

Buggs arrives in Nottingham with a glittering résumé. During her four years with the Broncos, she twice earned All-CCAA First Team honours, was named a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2024, and reached the landmark of 1,000 career points earlier this year.

In her senior season she started all 30 games, averaging 11.5 points per game while leading her team in assists. She added 162 rebounds and 50 steals, shooting .318 from beyond the arc and .816 from the free-throw line.

Off the court, she matched her athletic success with academic achievement, securing places on the CCAA All-Academic Team and the Winter Academic Honor Roll.

Wildcats Head Coach Karen Burton believes Buggs will be a major asset on both sides of the floor:

“I am looking forward to working with Kalaya this season. She is a strong, athletic guard who can shoot the ball, attack the basket, and play tough defence.

“Having been coached by her parents, she understands the commitment it takes to succeed at the next level. It’s an extra bonus that she will also be studying for her Master’s at the University of Nottingham this year and showcasing her skills in BUCS competition.”

For Buggs, the move represents both a sporting and academic opportunity:
