Rhema Ogele signs with Essex Rebels for the 2025/26 Super League Basketball season

Essex Rebels continue to build an exciting roster ahead of their opening fixture in Super League Basketball action this weekend, as they announced the acquistion of Rhema Ogele for their 2025/25 roster.

Coming from Chicago, Ogele previously played at the Portland State University, whom she played with from 2021 until 2025. Ogele’s experience competing in the Big Sky Conference, part of the prestigious NCAA Division I, highlights the high level of play she brings to the Rebels.

Standing at 6’3, the centre has a big presence on the court – last season saw Ogele start all twenty-eight games for the Vikings, where she finished in the top eight of the Big Sky conference for rebounds per game, including being fourth for offensive rebounds.

Overall, Ogele also ranks in the top ten overall in Vikings history amongst rebound, double-double and game starts leaders.

Ahead of her move to the Rebels, Rhema Ogele said:

“I’m excited to embrace new challenges and opportunities to grow as a player during this season with the Rebels. I’m excited to push myself, build chemistry with my teammates, and represent the program with pride on and off the court.”

When asked about the latest arrival, Head Coach Ashley Cookson said:

“Rhema has shown throughout her career at Portland State, that she can be a force in the paint and bring real presence to the game. What excites us even more is the person she is a hardworking, humble, and team first player who lifts those around her. We’re excited for Rhema to kick start her to career as an Essex Rebel and contribute to our team.”
