Caledonia’s Mathilde Domenger secures Molten Sixth Player of the Year title

Super League Basketball is delighted to announce the winner of the Molten Sixth Player of the Year award for the 2025/26 season, following a voting process involving the League’s Head Coaches and Captains.

Caledonia Gladiators guard Mathilde Domenger scoops this year’s title, after the 25-year-old shone once again for Chantelle Handy’s side as they secured second place in the Championship and a Betty Codona Trophy Final berth. The French floor general started only one of her 15 appearances in the Championship.

The 2024/25 Betty Codona Trophy Final Most Valuable Player has also won Molten Community Champion of the Year honours this season. She leads SLB in assists with 5.7 per game, but also ranks fifth league-wide for steals per game (2.5) and contributes 10 points per game for the Gladiators, too.

Reflecting on her success, Domenger said:

“I am very honoured to receive the Molten Sixth Player of the Year award. This is a role I discovered this year – a different one, but also an extremely rewarding one. I’m especially grateful to have built a strong relationship of trust with my coach, which allowed us to explore all possibilities and make the most of what I could bring to the team.

“It’s in this role that I felt the most effective, and above all the most useful. I’m really happy to have contributed energy and impact off the bench, and to have discovered a new side of my game. Thank you to my team for the trust and support.”

Caledonia Gladiators Head Coach Chantelle Handy added:

“As a returning player, Mat has been a key part of what we wanted to build this season. She’s brought leadership and energy to the group, and her versatility allows her to step into any role that’s asked of her. I’m really proud of her growth and the consistency she brings to the team.”

Voters were asked to choose their top three selections for the award, with the first choice earning three points, the second choice two points and the third choice one point, with the player who accrues the most points overall winning the award.
