Oaklands have pulled off another signing coup for the 2018-19 season by securing the services of NCAA graduate, Roya Rustamzada.

A versatile 5ft 11in Guard/Forward was one of the stars of last years graduating NCAA class, where she finished 4th in double doubles, 9th in rebounding and top 50 in assists in overall D2 competition.

The multi-positional playmaker finished her monumental career at Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego, by leading her team in scoring, rebounds, assists and steals as a senior and finished in the schools’ top 10 for points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocked shots and free-throw percentage.

The All-American is a member of the College 1000-point club, after finishing with 1534 career points and Rustamzada also broke a PacWest record by becoming the first female athlete in history to grab over 1000 career rebounds.

These numbers saw her named to the All-PacWest first team and the recipient of the PacWest Player of the Year and defensive PacWest Player of the Year awards for 2018.

“This is a statement of the aspirations of our club,” enthused Head Coach Lee Ryan about the signing.

“Its testament to everyone at Oaklands that we can pull off a signing like this so early on in our journey as a club. Its also testament to Roya who throughout her career has shown faith in good people and programs, we started talking early on this year and our commitment paid off.

“Roya is a first class person and player, she will have a huge impact for us. Her numbers speak for themselves but what excites me the most is her style and flare for the game, she will be a fans favourite around the league.

“She plays with passion and excitement for the game every-time she steps on the court, add that to her skill set and you have an exciting prospect. It really is a marquee signing and we are delighted Roya will be a Wolf this season!”

The Californian native is ready for the WBBL and is here to make her mark. She stated: “Its always been a dream of mine to play basketball in Europe and this opportunity to play in the WBBL has opened that door for me.

“I am grateful to Oaklands and Coach Ryan, who has supported me through the process, and I will contribute the best I can for them. I look forward to getting to know my teammates and getting the season started!”
