The latest WBBL All-Star Five is led by someone who is, amazingly, a debutant in the weekly team despite winning Molten WBBL Player of the Month for January, alongside a group of familiar faces from elsewhere around the league.

Alison Gorrell – Newcastle Eagles
Gorrell had deserved a starting spot for her performances over many weeks, and gets it after Eagles recorded a first win in six games by avenging a previous defeat to Cardiff Met Archers. Gorrell is second in the league in scoring, fifth in assists, and the most fouled player, earning her spot this week with a near triple-double of 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, including a perfect 7-7 at the free-throw line.

Holly Winterburn – Leicester Riders
Winterburn is now joint-first for her total number of appearances for the season, with this being her sixth, although her first in the last five weeks. She saw the unbeaten Leicester Riders past Oaklands Wolves with 22 points on 8-12 (66%) shooting, along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals, including six points in the opening four minutes as Riders quickly established a cushion.

DeAngelique Waithe – Essex Rebels
Chasing Leicester at the top of the table, Waithe makes her second appearance in the last month after a big double-double in victory over Durham Palatinates. The American forward posted 22 points and 10 rebounds, adding two steals, and including 10 first quarter points as Rebels established an early 15 point lead and never trailed in the game.

Kennedy Leonard – BA London Lions
It’s a fourth showing for the season, but first in the last month, for the WBBL’s assists leader after BA London Lions won a crucial top three clash with Nottingham Wildcats. Leonard had a double-double of 21 points and 11 assists, adding four rebounds and four steals. She had seven points, four assists and three big defensive steals in a fourth quarter that Lions won 22-9.

Georgia Jones – Manchester Met Mystics
Mystics have returned to form, led by some big performances from their captain and GB guard Georgia Jones as she makes the All-Star Five for the second week in a row. She followed her career high in points last week by seeing Mystics through in the WBBL Trophy against Newcastle Eagles, scoring 15 points on 5-9 (55%) shooting to go with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
