Brahe Ashton is set for her second season in the WBBL after agreeing to play as a non-professional with her hometown club, Nottingham Wildcats.

Having joined the club as an 8-year-old, Ashton has progressed through all the club’s age group teams, before finally making her debut in the top flight last season.

The teenager is already a WBBL Cup Final winner with the Wildcats and is looking to make a big impact this time around.

Ashton attends the Nottingham Academy school and will be part of the new-look Nottingham Wildcats Academy, where new coach Kenrick Liburd will be plying his trade as the Lead Coach to the Perform Programme.

“I’m excited to play in the WBBL next year, as it is a massive part of my development as a young player,” enthused Ashton.

“I look forward to the upcoming season and playing with some new teammates and a new coach, so I’m ready to work hard and play well in the season”.

Coach Liburd welcomed the signing of the 17-year-old and added: “I’m really excited to work with Brahe – a high level young British guard, who is dedicated to becoming a better player.

“She’s a natural point guard who can run the show and make plays for others”.

Ashton is about to embark on a 10-day road trip, along the east coast of America, with teammate and Academy Director, Siobhan Prior. The visit will take in basketball camps and incorporate colleges that have expressed an interest in giving Brahe scholarships from September 2019.

The player has also recognised the differing roles she will play this season and confirmed: “My role within the WEABL team isn’t just to be a leader, but to be the person who inspires others to want to play harder and work together.

“I will have to be more of a scoring threat in the WEABL than the WBBL, but I am excited for the new season and I can’t wait to get out there and play.”
