Championship
The Championship is the premier women’s basketball league in the United Kingdom, where all teams face each other over the course of an 18-week season.
The 10 clubs meet one another on two occasions in the league competition – once at each team’s home venue.
Teams were awarded two points for a win in league games and the team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned Champions.
In the case of a tie, the head-to-head record between the sides concerned was taken into account. In the case of a tie between multiple teams where this does not break the tie, it was then determined by the points difference in the games between the teams.
Betty Codona Trophy
The Trophy features all 10 teams are split geographically into two groups.
North:
B. Braun Sheffield Hatters
Caledonia Gladiators
Manchester Basketball
Newcastle Eagles
Nottingham Wildcats
Group B:
Cardiff Met Archers
Essex Rebels
Leicester Riders
London Lions
Oaklands Wolves
Teams play each other in their group home or away over the first five weekends of the season.
The winners and runners-up from both groups advance to single leg Semi-Finals with ties assigned by Trophy Group seeding.
Semi-Finals
Group A Winner v Group B Runner-Up
Group B Winner v Group A Runner-Up
The two Finalists then meet each other in a single-leg Final in January at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham.
The Trophy is named after legendary women’s basketball pioneer Betty Codona who sadly passed away in March 2022.
Cup
The Cup competition features all SLB teams in a single leg knockout tournament.
The top 6 teams from the previous season’s Championship standings recieve a bye into the Quarter Finals. The remaining teams compete in the First Round, with ties assigned by Championship seeding (8th v 11th, 9th v 10th).
The two winners advance to join the 6 byed teams into the Quarter Finals with ties assigned by Open Draw.
Semi-Finals ties are assigned by an open draw also.
Play-offs
The Playoffs are the season-ending contest and take place between the top eight teams in the Championship at the end of the season.
The top 8 SLB teams from the end-of-season Championship standings qualify for the Playoffs.
Both the Quarter Finals and Semi-Finals are single leg.
Quarter Final ties are assigned by Championship seeding (1st v 8th, 2nd v 7th, 3rd v 6th, 4th v 5th).
Semi-Final ties are assigned by the highest remaining seed vs the lowest remaining seed and then the other two remaining teams in the other Semi-Final.
The Finals progress to the Play-off Final at The O2, London, in the end of season finale.
