The Essex Rebels are pleased to confirm that Leah McDerment has re-signed for the 2025/26 Super League Basketball Women season, returning for her second season with Essex.
The 5’10″ guard made a strong impression in her debut season with the Rebels and will be looking to take on a bigger role in the upcoming campaign.
McDerment has played in the UK’s top league with the London Lions and Manchester Basketball (formerly Giants), in addition to her overseas experience with German side Bad Homburg Falcons.
She has represented England at the U16 and U18 European Championships, and Great Britain at the U20 European Championships.
During her collegiate career at NCAA D1 college, UMASS Amherst, Mcderment started for the team during all four of her seasons there, as well as being the captain for the team for two seasons.
McDerment is looking forward to returning to Essex stating:
“Really excited to be back with the Rebels for a second year, looking forward to getting back on the court and building on last season!”
Rebels Head Coach Ashley Cookson added:
“We’re really pleased to have Leah back with us this season. She’s worked tirelessly over the off-season, showing the dedication and drive that embody what it means to be a Rebel.
“With her vast experience in this league, Leah’s understanding of the game, work ethic and presence on the floor make her an important part of our squad, and we’re excited to see her build on last season.”
