Friday Feeling

After the excitement of the international break, ten teams will take to the court this weekend as attention shifts back to the Championship.

Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters welcome Cardiff Met Archers, having yet to taste defeat.

The home side are keen to recreate the momentum established prior to the international break, which saw them power to a 6-0 record.

“We’ve continued to train hard and had various practice games to keep ourselves sharp,” noted Steph Gandy.

The free-scoring forward, currently ranked eighth in the league in points per game, is expecting teams to give Sheffield their best shot.

“Being unbeaten comes with a bit of extra pressure: we know there’s a target on our back and every team wants to be the first to beat us.

“However, we’ve only played six games so it’s too early to be talking about having a perfect record.

“As a team we need to continue doing the things we do well and limit turnovers.”

According to Helen Naylor, it’s time for the Hatters to “refocus” after a dominant opening to the season.  The forward is enjoying a typically impressive campaign but admits there are testing trials ahead.

“We have some tough games coming up that will really test us, but we’re excited for the challenge and I am confident we will pick up where we left off.

“If we stay aggressive and consistent we can continue to extend our unbeaten run.

“There’s no time for complacency.”

BA London Lions open the weekend’s action at home as the side welcome Team Northumbria. The visitors will be hoping to build on a thrilling victory in their previous Championship outing and in the process keep the hosts winless.

At the same time, Manchester Mystics will look to replicate Great Britain’s success at the National Basketball Performance Centre against the travelling Oaklands Wolves.

Nottingham Wildcats conclude the day’s schedule at home against the visiting Leicester Riders.

On Sunday, Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters face Cardiff Met Archers before Sevenoaks Suns take on Caledonia Pride. The visitors from Scotland will have to earn victory the hard way as Sevenoaks look to further improve their perfect record.
