GB International Katie Januszewska signs new deal with the Leicester Riders

The Leicester Riders have confirmed their first signing of the off-season, announcing that Great Britain international Katie Januszewska has signed a new one-year contract extension with the club.

Joining the team for the first time in the 2023/24 season, Januszewska signed a long-term deal with the club which saw her compete for the Riders alongside her studies at our partner institution, Loughborough University. With that contract now complete, the 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a new contract extension to keep her in Riders red for the upcoming 2026/27 season.

Januszewska has had a stellar Riders career thus far in which she received her first senior international Great Britain call-up, was named the 2024/25 SLB’s Young player of the year, and has twice been named in the League’s Molten British Team of the Year in both the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.

This summer has been a busy one for ‘KJ’ as she kickstarts her Commonwealth Games campaign with Team England this weekend in the Women’s 3×3 competition in Glasgow. Being named to Team England for a such prestigious event is a testament to the young star’s professionalism, talent and development over recent seasons.

Upon signing a new deal, Januszewska commented:

“I’m excited to sign back with Riders for next season. Although the end result wasn’t what we wanted as a team, I feel like we built good foundations to develop on moving into next season. With the addition of a few new people and our returning players I think we can continue to develop as a team and be competitive in the league.”

Head Coach Nick Moodey added:

“It’s great to have KJ back for another season. She’s been a top player in the league for the last couple of seasons and one of the most talented British players. We’re looking forward to seeing her continue to develop this coming campaign and contribute on both ends of the floor.”

Januszewska becomes the first confirmed name on the Leicester Riders roster for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball women’s season.
