B.Braun Sheffield Hatters secured the SLB Play-Off title by downing the Oaklands Wolves 83-73 at The O2, London, on Sunday.

Trailing by as many as 13 points in the first half, the Hatters responded emphatically to gain revenge for their loss to the Wolves in the Cup Final in March and cap off a solid season with a trophy to take back to Yorkshire.

Georgia Gayle paced the winners with 19 points and five rebounds, earning her MVP honours, and Tyia Singleton had an immense 14-point, 10-rebound double-double for Sheffield.

Sam Ashby hit five triples for a game-high 23 points for Oaklands.

Despite the defeat, the Wolves started the brighter of the two teams, as a basket from Lavinia Da Silva capped off an 8-0 start for the Championship winners.

With their backs against the wall, the Hatters responded and secured their first score thanks to a triple from Emily Gandini, but Oaklands were relentless throughout the first ten minutes, bagging a 21-11 lead heading into the second.

A double-digit lead for the Wolves, aiming for trophy number three this season, but the roles were to be reversed going into the second.

Springing into life all of a sudden, Sheffield began to nail their shots and attack the hoop. A score under the basket from Nija Collier in the final seconds of the second knotted the score at 32-32 at the break.

It didn’t take too long for the Hatters to establish their place at the summit, but despite a triple from Ashby to restore the Wolves’ lead, the Hatters were not to be denied, taking a commanding 53-45 cushion going into the final period.

The lead stretched to 15 points in the fourth, and despite late pressure from the Wolves, Sheffield remained cool, calm, and collected to secure the Play-Off crown.
