Katie Januszewska secures Molten Young Player of the Year honours

Super League Basketball is delighted to announce the winner of the Molten Young Player of the Year, following a voting process involving the League’s Head Coaches and Captains.

Leicester Riders’ Great Britain international Katie Januszewska is the recipient of this year’s award – the fourth time a Leicester Riders player has won this honour after three wins by Holly Winterburn previously – after ‘KJ’ delivered her best SLB campaign to date for Ben Stanley’s side.

Particularly from the second half of the season, Januszewska has been on another level for the Riders with several 20+ point scoring performancs, setting a career-high of 27 on two occasions against Durham and Sheffield as the 20-year-old showed maturity beyond her years to help guide the Riders into the Play-offs with her impressive displays.

Reflecting on her success in winning this award, Januszewska said:

“I’m grateful to receive the recognition of this award. Being a part of this team this season has been really enjoyable! I’d like to say a massive thank you to my teammates and coaches who have all supported me throughout this season and helped me to improve.”

Ben Stanley, Leicester’s Head Coach for the past two seasons, added:

“KJ has been fantastic for us all season on and off the court. We had high expectations for her this year even before her role increased, and she’s attacked every opportunity and thoroughly deserves every accolade.

“For me personally seeing her development this year, being able to watch her apply everything she works on in practice in games no matter the competition, has been a real highlight.”
