Having already secured the services of leading duo Cat Carr and Ta’Yani Clark, Sevenoaks Suns have been given a further boost by cementing the return of another five key players.
Great Britain national team forward Janice Monakana is back on board and ready to continue being a game-winner in waiting for Suns. She played at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Final Round last year, following on from her stunning MVP performances in the WBBL Finals.
Renee Busch always adds valuable experience to the Sevenoaks locker room and will again provide Suns with a valuable scoring presence on the floor. The shooting guard will be looking to continue being a threat to all opposing defences around the league.
Austrian Julia Koppl could lay claim to being one of the most underrated players in the WBBL in these past seasons, with her presence in the paint and outstanding consistency meaning she will be an anchor once again.
Spaniard Irene Garrido made her debut for Suns last year having graduated from Minnesota in the NCAA. She was really getting into her stride prior to the Covid-19 disruption and will be looking to pick up where she left off.
Meanwhile Haylee Miller has continued to make some key contributions coming off the bench and Suns’ play-caller Len Busch has reiterated how each and every member of his core rotation plays an important role.
“Janice is a difficult matchup for the rest of the league since she’s fast, strong, can drive and can also shoot from deep,” said Busch. “Her two Finals MVP awards are testament to her being a big game player.
“Renee has improved every year and I am looking forward to seeing her this season after a summer of hard work, while Julia has been a stalwart in the 4-5 spot for Suns for three years now. She always holds her own against every player in the league in her position.
“I also think Irene played really well for us last year, especially when Ta’Yani (Clark) was out after knee surgery and Haylee is a long time Sun, who can fill in for us in the frontcourt, giving us a bit of extra depth.”
