The London Lions finished the Championship campaign with a perfect 20-0 records after beating second-placed Caledonia Gladiators 74-45 at the Copper Box Arena ahead of the Playoff campaigng getting underway next week.
First Half
Back on home court for the first time since securing their Championship title last weekend in what could well be a preview for the season-ending Playoff Final on May 19, the Lions wasted no time in asserting their dominance on the fixture.
Starting the first quarter with a 6-0 run, London were clinical from the outset on both ends of the floor, proving too much for a very good Caledonia defence at times and showing their own prowess without the ball, leading 20-11 after the opening period.
The Gladiators’ stern defensive effort continued, and they will have been delighted to keep London to 36 points at the half, but were looking for answers in their own offensive efforts as they contributed a total 21 points in 20 minutes of first half action.
Second Half
The Gladiators will have been desperate to come out in the third period and show their true capabilities on the offensive end, but they instead had their lowest-scoring quarter of the contest with just nine points contributed in Q3 compared to London’s 21, who had ballooned their lead to a significant 27 points with 10 minutes remaining.
The visitors saved their best scoring period for last, putting 15 on the board in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late, as the Lions had already sealed the game and concluded their unbeaten Championship campaign in dominant fashion.
Player of the Game
Savannah Wilkinson continued her fine form of late to take UNBEATABLE Player of the Game honours, contributing 16 points, four rebounds and two assists to her side’s victory.
