Molten WBBL 3×3 shortlisted for prestigious ‘Inspiring Initiative’ award

The Molten Women’s British Basketball League 3×3 showcase on BBC Sport has been shortlisted for the ‘Inspiring Initiative’ category at the Women’s Sport Trust 2017 #BeAGameChanger Awards.

Women’s British Basketball League players participate regularly on BBC Sport during half-time of televised BBL and WBBL games to promote the shortened version of the game, which is becoming increasingly popular with young people and women across the globe.

Available on the BBC Sport app, the BBC Sport website and on Connected TV, the WBBL is thrilled that the initiative has gained recognition.

“This is more evidence of the way that women’s basketball and the WBBL is moving to new levels all of the time and inspiring new players to pick up the ball thanks to the important support of commercial partners such as Molten and of course media partners like BBC Sport,” stated Bob Hope, BBL and WBBL Commercial Director.

“The accessibility of the games through the various viewing platforms has showcased the sport to new audiences and will help to grow the women’s game.

“Now we hope everyone is going to get online and cast their vote if we are a Finalist, so we can get even more momentum and profile behind the growth of women’s basketball in the UK,” added Hope.

The Women’s Sport Trust #BeAGameChanger awards are supported by Microsoft and showcase the irresistible nature of women’s sport and inspire others to take action.

Following a public nomination process, each award has been shortlisted by a Board of Trustees. The finalists in each category are chosen by an Expert Panel. Public voting decides the winners and this will begin on 18 April.

Winners will be announced at the #BAGC2017 awards in London on Thursday 11th May 2017.
