Newcastle Eagles, Durham Palatinates and Sevenoaks Suns managed to all pick up home wins on Saturday whilst Nottingham Wildcats were victorious in Oaklands.

Durham Palatinates produced a remarkable comeback in the final period of their game against Sheffield Hatters, to pick up a 66-63 win over the visiting side.

The home side trailed the Yorkshire side throughout the first three quarters, but suddenly Durham exploded within the final four minutes of play to produce a remarkable 13-0 run to turn around a 10-point deficit to pick up a big home victory.

With Sheffield falling to Durham, Sevenoaks Suns managed to capitalise and pick up a home win over Caledonia Pride, 86-75, to allow them to move back into 2nd place in the WBBL Championship.

The vististing Scottish side however produced a valiant effort against the WBBL Trophy runners-up, backed by a double-double performance from Sian Phillips, 24 points and 10 rebounds, the Caledonian side took an impressive lead after the first period and even managed to hold Suns to just a single digit lead heading into half-time.

However with reigning league MVP and team captain Cat Carr leading the home side with 27 points, and an additional 15 points from Janice Monakana and a near double-double from Julia Koppl, 12 points and eight rebounds, the Suns managed to power ahead of the visitors in the final minutes of the final period to hand them another league win and keep them hot on the toes of close rivals London Lions for the league title.

Nottingham Wildcats also produced a comeback victory themselves as they came from behind to defeat hosts Oaklands Wolves, 77-84.

The home side managed to take a nine point lead into half-time against the visitors, thanks to key performances from the likes of Beth Sarson (20 points), coach/captain Lauren Milligan (16 points), and Greta Uprus (11 points, nine rebounds). But as the third quarter opened, Nottingham produced an incredible 16-0 run which brought them right back into the game and then the battle was really on.

Oaklands again managed to restore their lead by the end of the third, but it was significant lower than their half-time lead, with just three points separating the two sides. The two sides would trade single digit leads throughout the fourth and as the game entered the final minute and 30 seconds, both teams defence were on form, preventing both sides from adding points for well over a minute. With 28 seconds left on the clock, Oaklands’ Menendez laid in a two-pointer to put Oaklands just three points behind the visitors.

The Oaklands defence piled on the pressure as Nottingham took possession, but after picking up two fouls, Nottingham managed to convert all four free throws and give themselves a big enough lead to hold off the fighting spirit of the home side.

Nottingham’s Praise Egharevba (21 points, 20 rebounds), Imani Whittington (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Brooklyn Pannell (14 points and 11 rebounds) all collected double-doubles also.

And in the final game of the day, Newcastle Eagles managed to bounce back from their recent string of losses to defeat Gloucester City Queens, 81-58.

Newcastle’s shooting was on form during the contest, shooting over 50% from behind the arc and converting 87% of their free throws. Maddy McVicar led her side with 24 points, whilst captain Marina Fernandez Pardo picked up a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, alongside another double-double from Layne Murphy, 15 points and 11 rebounds.
