The SLB Championship returned over the weekend following last Sunday’s Betty Codona Trophy Final with five games that altered the standings.

Among the winners were the newly minted Trophy winners, the B. Braun Sheffield Hatters.

London Lions 47-79 B. Braun Sheffield Hatters

B. Braun Sheffield Hatters’ conquered the capital on Saturday, as a ruthless fourth quarter ambush paved the way for a 79-47 victory over the London Lions in Hackney.

For three quarters, the Hatters were ahead but could not pull away from a plucky London side that refused to let the Trophy winners steamroll them and at times, matched them blow for blow. But when the fourth period came, the stamina, the depth and the quality told, as Sheffield pulled clear, leaving the Lions in hibernation.

Four players put up double digits for the Hatters, with three players leading the way with 14 points – Jess Eadsforth-Yates, Megan Mullings and Shauna Harrison.

Jada Lewis matched the Sheffield trio with 14 points for London.

Oaklands Wolves 73-71 Manchester Basketball

Shanice Beckford-Norton drained a key free throw and pulled down a vital offensive rebound to lead the Oaklands Wolves to a slender 73-71 win over Manchester Basketball at the Oaklands Sportszone.

A three-point play from Veera Pirttinen with 2:43 to play gave Manchester a two-point lead, but it was to be their last action on the scoreboard as they failed to execute their chances, as Oaklands sealed the victory eventually in the final seconds as Beckford-Norton split her free throws, but grabbed her own offensive rebound and let the time tick down.

The GB international had 12 points and 12 rebounds, adding a valuable contribution, but the Wolves were led by Tayjanna Mcghee-Pleasant who had 23 points and seven rebounds. Frannie Hottinger led Manchester with 16.

Caledonia Gladiators 74-72 Essex Rebels

Caledonia Gladiators kept their composure down the stretch to edge the Essex Rebels 74-72 at PlaySport.

The loss was especially tough to take for the Rebels as they blew a 17-point lead with the Gladiators sealing the win from the foul line in the last minute.

Anastasia Warren led Caledonia with 21 points and seven rebounds. Nat Chou paced Essex with 21.

Leicester Riders 60-80 Nottingham Wildcats

Nottingham Wildcats bagged their third win in a row with a deserved 80-60 win over the Leicester Riders at Loughborough University.

After starting the Championship season 0-7, the Wildcats are starting to hit their stride, as they were unable to properly shake off the Riders until the fourth quarter, when Nottingham outscored their East Midlands rivals 20-8 to create breathing room.

Johnanna Langbehn led the winners with 33 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, with Jocelyn Tate adding 16 points on 75% shooting.

Jada Holland amassed 22 points for Leicester, who slumped to their sixth straight defeat.

Cardiff Met Archers 53-105 Newcastle Eagles

Newcastle Eagles overcame the winless Cardiff Met Archers 105-53 at the Archers Arena.

Already leading 53-35 at the break, the Eagles put the game away completely in the third, holding the Archers to just eight points and taking an unassailable 76-43 cushion going into the final ten minutes to make the game safe.

Andrea Daley paced the Eagles with 33 points and four steals as the victors shot an impressive 57% from the field, holding the Archers to just 36%.

Amelia Scharpf led Cardiff with 17 points but fall to 0-9.
