Oakes confident Pride can thrive under pressure

Four teams take centre stage this weekend as the schedule is cleared to make way for the Trophy Semi-Finals.

Caledonia Pride hit the road this weekend to take on high-flying Sevenoaks Suns, knowing victory in Kent will see the franchise reach a second final of the season.

“Our run in the Cup has definitely prepared the team for the Trophy,” explained Pride’s Tricia Oakes.

“We are now in a better position to cope with the pressure of a single elimination game.

“Sevenoaks are a tough team. They have strong scoring threats across all positions.

“If we’re to advance we know we will have to play solid team defence and limit our turnovers.

“You have to stay focused against the Suns for the full 40 minutes – you can’t afford to switch off.

“For me, it will be a case of continuing to provide a strong presence inside on both ends of the court and do whatever else I can to help the team win.”

Leicester Riders and Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters open the weekend’s action on Saturday, knowing only 40 minutes separates them from a spot in the Trophy Final.

The winning side will need to wait until Sunday to learn who they will face in the competition’s finale.

On Sunday, Sevenoaks Suns welcome Caledonia Pride to Sevenoaks School Sports Centre in the second semi-final of the weekend.

Leicester Riders will take to the court for a second time on Wednesday (11th), the side visit Durham Palatinates for a rare mid-week Championship showdown to conclude the game week.
