Sengers, Da Silva ready for Cup Final

The first piece of silverware will be handed out this weekend as Caledonia Pride and Nottingham Wildcats travel to Arena Birmingham for Sunday’s WBBL Cup Final.

The showpiece event will be available to watch live on BBC Sport.

Despite being on the cusp of history, for Pride Head Coach Bart Sengers the focus must remain “on the process” rather than the prospect of winning the club’s maiden trophy.

“The preparation won’t be any different for this game,” noted Sengers.

“For us to win we have to play like we practice.

“Our focus needs to be on ourselves and our team.

“Obviously Nottingham has some great players and we know the team well. But if we can stick to our plan defensively and trust each other on offense it will be an exciting game.

“We can be proud we have made it to the final but at the same time we still have some work to do to improve.

“Winning would be great for everyone involved and a good boost for the club.”

Nottingham Wildcats enter the weekend with a score to settle having suffered Cup Final defeat at the inaugural event last year.

Since then, according to Wildcats forward Vanessa Da Silva, there’s been a lot of hard work and sacrifice at the club to once again position the franchise in a winning position.

“It will be an amazing experience for the club, one that will hopefully demonstrate everything we have sacrificed and showcase the effort we have put in.

“We can’t, however, underestimate the opposition.

“We have to stop them from getting comfortable and we need to give them our best shot.

“Defence, boxing out, knocking down shots, playing together and fighting until the end: these are the things we have to do to win.

“If we take care of the little things we will give ourselves a great chance of coming out victorious.”
