Sheffield Hatters secure SLB Championship title

The penultimate Super League Basketball Championship weekend delivered a five-game slate packed with action.

Several teams kept fighting for higher playoff seeding, while the Sheffield Hatters secured the SLB Championship title.

Oaklands Wolves 81-76 Newcastle Eagles

The Oaklands Wolves snatched an important 81-76 home win over the Newcastle Eagles, despite Andrea Daley‘s impressive 25-point, 18-rebound double-double performance.

The Eagles took control of the game early and maintained it from the opening quarter until the halftime break. However, the Wolves fought hard to keep their deficit under 10 points and keep their hopes alive.

The second half saw the Wolves improve their defence and close the gap to just one possession, while Newcastle managed to stay in the lead. However, thanks to a remarkable fourth quarter, Oaklands finally took the lead with 2:45 remaining thanks to Teresa Da Silva’s three-pointer, and snatched the win.

Danielle McCray led the Wolves in scoring with 22 points, shooting 62% from the field, while Teresa Da Silva had 15 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Shanique Lucas led the Eagles with a game-high 28 points and six rebounds.

London Lions 71-51 Cardiff Met Archers

A dominant third quarter powered the London Lions to a 71-51 win over the Cardiff Met Archers at New City College Hackney, marking their seventh victory of the season.

The Lions took command of the game early, extending their lead to 14 points in the second quarter. However, the Met Archers fought back to cut the deficit down to seven by halftime.

After the break, London demolished Cardiff, winning the third quarter by a dominant 21-3 scoreline, leaving the Archers facing an impossible 25-point comeback. Despite their massive deficit, the visitors kept fighting until the end.

Jada Lewis scored a game-high 19 points, while Mya Proctor added 17 points for the Lions in the win.

Amelia Scharpf led the Cardiff Met Archers in scoring with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double.

B. Braun Sheffield Hatters 106-67 Leicester Riders

The B. Braun Sheffield Hatters put in an impressive collective performance to secure the SLB Championship title as they dominated the Leicester Riders 106-67 at the Canon Medical Arena.

Antoinette Lewis, Megan Mullings and Shauna Harrison combined to score 20 of the Hatters’ 25 points in the opening quarter, handing them an early lead. Thanks to their dominance on both ends of the floor, the hosts extended their lead to 16 points by halftime.

A devastating 10-0 run to start the third quarter from the Hatters ended all hopes of a second-half comeback for the Riders, who trailed by 26. Sheffield then cruised to their 15th win of the campaign, ending the game with a massive 39-point advantage.

Mullings led all scorers with 28 points and six steals, while Lewis delivered an impressive double-double of 19 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Meanwhile, Nina Krisper recorded a near double-double performance with 22 points and nine rebounds off the bench for the Hatters, who had five players score in double figures in the win.

Katie Januszewska registered a team-high 19 points for Leicester.

Nottingham Wildcats 70-81 Essex Rebels

The Essex Rebels made it three wins in a row after their 81-70 victory over the Nottingham Wildcats at Nottingham Wildcats Arena.

The Rebels quickly took control of proceedings in the opening quarter, extending their lead to double digits. However, the Wildcats refused to go down without a fight and cut the deficit to six by halftime.

Despite all of Nottingham’s efforts, the Rebels maintained control in the second half and saw out the game to secure their 12th win of the campaign.

Quinesha Lockett delivered an incredible all-round performance with 20 points, nine rebounds, five assists and seven steals, while Paige Meyer registered an 11-point, 10-assist, seven-rebound outing.

Tiarna Chambers-Desmond led the Wildcats in scoring with 20 points. Meanwhile, Jocelyn Tate (12 points, 15 rebounds, five assists) and Johanna Langbehn (13 points, 15 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in the loss.

Caledonia Gladiators 68-58 Manchester Basketball

The Caledonia Gladiators secured a hard-fought 68-58 victory over Manchester Basketball at Playsport Arena. Tierra Hodges contributed for 17 points and seven rebounds in the win.

The Gladiators opened the game with an outstanding 11-0 run, thanks to Tess Amundsen‘s nine points in the first period, and took control early. However, Manchester stormed back with an 8-0 run, closing the gap to just one possession midway through the second period, but Caledonia answered with a run of their own to extend their lead back to 10 by halftime.

Both teams fought hard in the second half, but the hosts ultimately prevailed, sealing their 14th win of the season and securing second place in the standings.

Anastasia Warren led all scorers with 18 points, while Brynn Masikewich registered a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Gladiators.

Tiarra East recorded a team-high 15 points for Manchester.
