Some stunning team and individual performances on Saturday have seen some matters settled in the WBBL Trophy, and two huge games set up for next weekend.
In the North Group, Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters will progress to the semi-finals after beating fellow contenders Manchester Mystics 74-60. Steph Gandy (25) and Georgia Gayle (20) combined for most of their team’s points as Hatters pursue a third straight WBBL Trophy title.
Also in the North Group, Siobhan Prior’s 19 points and a huge double-double of 16 points and 20 rebounds from Ashley Harris led Nottingham Wildcats to a crushing 72-47 defeat of Caledonia Pride. That result leaves Wildcats and Mystics level in the group, with a clash in Manchester next weekend deciding who progresses.
Elsewhere, in the South Group, Erika Livermore and Alex Smith produced two of the personal performances of the season so far as Leicester Riders beat Oaklands Wolves 90-66. Livermore tied the highest tally of any player this season, with 36 points, while Smith registered a triple-double of 10 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. They now travel to group leaders Barking Abbey Crusaders next weekend, and are currently in second in the group.
