Sevenoaks Suns have taken an important early step towards retaining their WBBL Championship title after beating the only other unbeaten team, Manchester Mystics, 65-61 to move to 5-0. Judit Fritz led their scoring with 16 points, while Jess Good posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Mystics slipped to third, with a 3-1 record, after Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters notched their fourth win of the campaign by overwhelming Durham Palatinates 108-68. Four of their starters scored more than 20 points, led by Helen Naylor’s 24, in what is the highest points tally from any team so far this season.
Elsewhere, Caledonia Pride went about their business slightly differently, using a late run to edge past Oaklands Wolves 66-59. Their highest scorer finished with 10 points, as Alix Henderson shot perfectly including some crucial late scores, while nine players made it onto the scoresheet in a display of team basketball.
