It’s a glittering All-Star 5 after the latest round of WBBL Championship action, including London Lions’ star point guard after she sent another record tumbling, alongside a pair of London 2012 Olympians, and a pair of Sevenoaks Suns including the reigning Molten WBBL Player of the Season who is a near permanent fixture in the weekly team at the moment.

Kennedy Leonard – London Lions
In Sunday’s defeat of Gloucester City Queens, Leonard broke her own record for assists in a single game by handing out an unbelievable 22 dimes in under 30 minutes of play in Lions’ dominant performance, seeing her lead the All-Star 5 this week with the highest performance points total of any player so far, in her second appearance of the season. The game followed more midweek action in the FIBA EuroCup, but there was no let-up as Lions won the third quarter by a startling 34-0 and Leonard set the tone for that with two steals, both leading to scores, as well as five assists and four points in just five third quarter minutes. She finished with 16 points, six steals and five rebounds on top of her assists record.

Cat Carr – Sevenoaks Suns
Amazingly, the reigning MVP makes her fourth straight appearance in the first five weeks of the season as one of a pair of Suns as their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign continued with victory over Oaklands Wolves. She was, yet again, agonisingly close to a triple-double with a haul of 16 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists as the only player who is in the league’s top 10 in all three categories in the early stages of the season. Despite their characteristically good defence, Suns started this game slowly and trailed until Carr grabbed an offensive rebound and dished for a Renee Busch triple, before scoring the next five points herself in an 8-0 burst that gave them the lead for good early in the second stanza.

Renee Busch – Sevenoaks Suns
Matching her teammate’s points per game output, joint-seventh in the league at 17.3 and in search of a fourth straight season in double-figure scoring, is the player who ignited that run as Busch poured in 23 points while playing all 40 minutes of the game at Oaklands. She shot 5-9 (55%) from beyond the arc for the game, and the spark early in the second period was the first of two triples she hit in that spell; before scoring eight points in the third, including another pair of treys, all of which came in the 14-3 burst that sent the lead into double-figures and settled the game. She also had seven rebounds and gave out three assists, gaining weekly honours for the first time this season.

Jo Leedham-Warner – London Lions
Making her first ever appearance in the WBBL All-Star 5, in her first campaign on these shores, is Great Britain star and Olympian Jo Leedham-Warner, who joined London Lions in the summer following a career spanning France, Poland, Turkey and Australia. In under 24 minutes of play she did a little bit of everything as Lions dismantled Queens, turning in a quick double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while dishing five assists, nabbing four steals and blocking a shot. Exactly like her teammate Leonard, she was a tone-setter at the defensive end with four steals across the dominant second and third quarters that all led to scores for her teammates.

Dominique Allen – Manchester Met Mystics
Another GB international and London 2012 Olympian, Dominique Allen, makes her second All-Star 5 appearance in succession as Mystics made it three wins in a row in the WBBL Championship with a hard-fought home win over Cardiff Met Archers. Allen was the only member of this week’s team not to score in double-figures, netting seven points on an efficient five shots, but she hauled in a massive 13 rebounds and handed out five assists, also acting as the anchor of Mystics’ defence with a pair of steals and a blocked shot. She was pivotal in Manchester’s strong second half, handing out four assists at key times as well as scoring the bucket that crucially put them two shots up inside the final minute.
