We look at who was lighting it up in the WBBL during January.
Scoring machines
Once again it was a two-way battle at the top of the scoring chart between Alison Gorrell (Team Northumbria) and Ashley Harris (Nottingham Wildcats). The joint Molten WBBL Player of the Month led the way with 21 points, while Cup Final MVP Harris was only just behind with 20.7 points per game. They were the only players to jump past the 20 points per game landmark, although Lauren Thomas-Johnson (Manchester Mystics), Nicolette Fong Lyew Quee (Durham Palatinates), Georgia Jones (Manchester Mystics) and Helen Naylor (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) all dropped more than 18 per outing.
Sharp-shooters
Our top five in this category all shot 60% or more from the field during the period, with Great Britain rising star Holly Winterburn (Leicester Riders) in pole position with 66.7%. She was followed by centre Rachel Morris (Oaklands Wolves) who went for 60.6%, while Chantelle Pressley (Sevenoaks Suns), Ta’Yani Clark (Sevenoaks Suns) and Erin McGarrachan (Leicester Riders) were all locked up on 60% from the floor!
Perimeter Assassins
There was a competitive edge inside the same locker room as Renee Busch (Sevenoaks Suns) and Cat Carr (Sevenoaks Suns) both converted 50% from behind the arc during January and it was Stef Collins (Cardiff Met Archers) and Hannah Robb (Caledonia Pride) hot on their heels with 46.7% from long-range.
On the glass
A mighty five players all amassed double-digits on the boards during the month and that was the best of the season. Top of the tree was Alison Gorrell (Team Northumbria) with a fine 12.7 rebounds per game, closely followed by Urysla Cotton (BA Lodnon Lions) with 12 per outing. Ashley Harris (Nottingham Wildcats) takes the last podium step with 11 per game and the top five is rounded out by Esther Vazquaz (Oaklands Wolves) and Ta’Yani Clark (Sevenoaks Suns) who had 10.5 and 10.3 respectively.
Passing the rock
Onayssa Sbahi (Nottingham Wildcats) has been threatening to get on the top of this list all-season and she finally does it after dishing out a dazzling 8 assists per game. There were also stellar months for Jen Ashton (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) with 7.8 assists per game and Alex Smith (Leicester Riders) who corralled 7.6. In fact, it was a classic month all round, with the entire top 10 all dishing the rock 5 times per game or more!
On the line
We had a perfect 100% from the charity stripe as Rosanna Reynolds (Caledonia Pride) made all 10 of her attempts, while Alyesha Lovett (Nottingham Wildcats), Helen Naylor (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) and Christina Schnorr (Cardiff Met Archers) all passed the 90% mark.
Steal merchants
There was a throne with two seats as Jen Ashton (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) and Chantelle Pressley (Sevenoaks Suns) both grabbed three steals per game during the period. The last podium step was also shared too, with Lauren Thomas-Johnson (Manchester Mystics) and Ta’Yani Clark (Sevenoaks Suns) each snapping up 2.7 per game.
