The Nottingham Wildcats regained their positive record in the WBBL Championship right with the play-offs are just around the corner, as they beat Oaklands Wolves by 21 points on Tuesday afternoon.

The visitors didn’t take the lead once in the game as they were defended against very well by the Wildcats who put some distance between them and their opposition around half way through the first half as Chelsey Shumpert sunk a three-pointer before Simone Costa was fouled giving her the opportunity to make it a five point game.

From that point on, the Wildcats remained in complete control thanks to their fantastic performances on defence, which saw Shumpert and Moa Lundqvist grab nine rebounds each with Costa just behind on seven, while the two other starters, Tia Freeman and Praise Egharevba contributed a combined total of ten rebounds for their team.

The home side were also more efficient throughout the game, as they shot 43% from the field as a team compared to the Wolves who shot 28% from the field.

Wildcats’ guard Costa lead the game in scoring with 22 points, as Lundqvist put up 14, with Shumpert and Egharevba scoring 11 and 10 respectively – and the latter reached her total in just 17 minutes of game time.

Lizzy Harrison scored the most for the Wolves with 12 despite starting off the bench along with Merissa Quick who scored the joint-second most amount of points with nine as she played just over 14 minutes.
