Wildcats go with O’Connor

Nottingham Wildcats are pleased to announce the signing of Swedish born forward Rebecca O’Connor ahead of the start of the 2018-19 WBBL season this season weekend.

The 19-year-old was developed by DJursholm Indians BK, representing affiliate club Norrort Basket in the Swedish second tier from 2014-2018.

“I am really excited to join Nottingham Wildcats this upcoming season,” said O’Connor.

“I think the move to England and WBBL is a great opportunity for me as a player, and after finishing last season in Sweden strongly, I am more motivated than ever to work hard and take my game to the next level.

“I think I will be able to contribute with energy, speed and tough defence.”

O’Connor averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game before last Christmas, improving to 11 points and 4 rebounds in the New Year, averaging 35.7% from downtown during the second part of the season.

She also holds a British passport and has represented Sweden at the U16 level, touring both England and Denmark.

Wildcats’ play-caller Kenrick Liburd added,” She is a really good athlete, who plays hard at both ends of the floor. We feel that she is a really good fit for our league.

“Rebecca has the right kind of mentality, a great approach to practice and wants to improve every day. I am very excited to see her energy being injected into our squad and see where it takes us.”
