Manchester Giants 67-92 Leicester Riders

Leicester Riders drew level on points with league leaders London Lions after picking up a road win over Manchester Giants.

An impressive double-double performance by Rayven Peeples in the 67-92 victory on Sunday (February 25), helped the Riders extend their unbeaten run in the Women’s British Basketball League Championship to five games.

Starting Fives:

Manchester Giants:  Brooklynn McAlear-Fanus, Georgia Anderson, Myah Pace, Hannah Shaw, Sydney Hunter

Leicester Riders: Taylor O’Brien, Rayven Peeples, Marissa Hamilton, Samantha Ashby, McKenzie Johnston

First Half:

The Giants started on the front foot, building a five-point gap over Leicester.

But the Riders soon found their stride, closing the gap before building up a nine-point lead of their own by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter played out similarly to the first, with Leicester once more showing quality play to extend that lead further to 17 points at the half.

Second Half:

The Riders started with a bang, an early three-pointer from Samantha Ashby.

The third quarter proved to be the closest of the game, as the Giants tried to close the deficit, but despite their efforts it was not enough to close to gap.

The Riders made sure of the victory in the fourth frame, which they won by six points, extending the final margin of victory to 25 points.

Player of the Game:

There were a lot of candidates, but the award it goes to Leicester Riders’ Rayven Peeples. The centre might not have scored the most points, with 15, but her aerial threat saw her grab an impressive 18 rebounds, a key factor in the Riders’ win.
